Hey, my name is Aaron and I'm executive producer for Meg Bitton Live where we produce online education for portrait photographers, specifically around kid, family, and maternity photography.
Honestly, I'd rather call this role "Broadcast Ninja" or "Broadcast Swiss Army Knife" as I'm looking for someone who is very familiar with web streaming and broadcast, but could also help out around set too (like cam, TD, etc). Regardless, here's what's cookin:
I'm looking for a Broadcast Ninja to run the broadcast streaming side of our multi cam shows we produce. About 1-3 times a month we'll do a single or multi day workshop that we document and broadcast. We have a solid team we've been using to do these broadcasts, but up until now I've been flying out my Broadcast Engineer from LA, so I'd love to get someone local into the mix.
The content takes two forms: "Classroom" and "Photoshoots". With the Classroom stuff, these are kind of like mini pop-up TED style talks, as in, they're multi cam, have a small audience (10 or 12 people) and are done in a small studio. Often a series of mini talks about photography, creative approach, or photoshop demos. The Photoshoots can happen in-studio or in the field. They're still multi cam, but to capture what's happening, the camera work is a lot more fluid/flexible (aka, on monopods and such). After broadcasted, all content is then put online.
Overall, we're looking for someone who:
- Is familiar with the Black magic ATEM + Wirecast + Ustream (as these are the 3 assets we use)
- Is forward thinking enough to not just do the job, but also think of how we can constantly advance our workflow, technology, and approach.
- Can roll with the punches... big time. Leading up to a broadcast or even during we often feel out the audience and will come up with ideas on-the-fly to integrate into the broadcast, which requires a bit of hustle. For example, the morning of the broadcast we might decide we want to push the broadcast to wirecast (per usual, so it shows up behind the pay-wall) but also stream the first 10 minutes of every segment to facebook live as a marketing push... things like that.
- Is comfortable working with internet and broadcast technology in and out of studio. We have a studio space we operate in, but we'll also do things where we take a single camera live in-the-field by sending a signal back to the broadcast studio.
- Is familiar with things outside of the broadcast engineer role as well, like knowing how to TD, operate a camera, etc. Not that these will be necessary jobs to fill, but we often operate with small teams, so we need a swiss-army-knife style team that can help eachother out.
- Is a cool person who likes working with other cool people.
We're building out our new studio the second week of February, so if you're available I'd have you help in the tech build. From there, I would provide a list of show dates. That said, the start date is essentially when we do the build out.
Also, our studio is in Tenafly, NJ. Most of my team I hire is in NYC, Brooklyn, etc and we're happy to reimburse travel to get out to our space as I don't expect a lot of Broadcast Engineers live in Tenafly : )
