The Verge is seeking a highly talented junior director to join our team in creating unique live and non-fiction video content for our growing social platforms. Our video staff is part of The Verge’s editorial team; this is a job for journalists and storytellers above all.

The ideal candidate will be a fast, proficient editor and solid shooter with a multitude of beautiful documentary, viral, and fast-twitch creative pieces on their reel. Motion graphics is a plus. We’re looking for a strong storyteller and visionary — people who are dialed into content that performs on the internet as well as a passion in telling stories about everything The Verge covers: technology, science, entertainment, cars, politics, and design.

As a junior director, you will be embedded with our social team, creating daily live and produced videos for our off-platform channels, primarily Facebook. Part of the production process will include working with our producers to create original and serialized content as well as identifying editorial content that will translate into awesome video. Additionally you will be able to script copy for video as needed and engage in using multimedia tools to tell stories: graphics, stop motion, and animation. This position offers full creative freedom to jump into the deep end of the internet backed by a slew of kick-ass editorial support. Enthusiasm, leadership, an ability to juggle multiple projects, and initiative to kick-start projects in a busy work environment is a must.

Qualifications:

3+ years of professional experience in directing and editing
Strong storytelling capabilities
Experience building social brands favored
Expert in Adobe Premiere, After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator a must with Cinema 4D a plus
High end shooting capability and familiarity shooting with Canon Cinema line is a plus.
Strong interest in all of the Verge’s coverage areas
Ability to conceptualize and develop new templates and series for our current programming
