*** 42 / CW15 in Omaha, Nebraska is seeking a Broadcast Engineer! This individual will be responsible for installing and maintaining video, audio, and other equipment associated with television broadcasting. This includes server-based record and play-out systems, non-linear editors, production switchers, routing switchers, MPEG encoders, decoders, automation, news room computer systems, data networks, and broadcast transmission equipment.
Responsibilities include:
- Provide the engineering design and assist with the building and installation of electronic systems/equipment as assigned
- Support of both office and broadcast-specific IT infrastructure
- Installation and maintenance of video and audio equipment, cameras, switchers, and EAS equipment
- Maintenance of microwave radio links, automation systems, and satellite earth station equipment
- Assist in the maintenance of high-power UHF transmitters
- Provide support for the technical needs of the News Department and Master Control operations
- PC hardware/software support of on-site workstations
- Conduct Live Event site surveys and assist in Live Event productions
- Manage vehicle fleet maintenance
- Occasional facility maintenance tasks, especially a basic knowledge of HVAC, UPS, and backup power generators
- Provide budget information to support the implementation of new systems
- Provide technical support to operational users
- Consult and communicate with engineering management and other engineers on technical issues as required
- Provide specific descriptive documentation and engineering signal flow diagrams for CAD documentation on all work performed on technical systems
- Perform all technical work to engineering standards and practices
- Other duties may be assigned
- Self-starter, able to work efficiently without direct supervision
- Be able to work effectively with other departments receiving and communicating instructions via telephone or in person
- Be able to read and understand technical materials
- Able to set priorities and troubleshoot quickly under pressure of deadlines
- Able to concentrate for long periods of time
- Hold a valid driver's license
- Must be flexible to accommodate shift changes including extended hours, weekends, and evenings
- Must be able to stand, sit, reach, climb and work outdoors in adverse weather
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
- Should be familiar with network routing and IP addressing
- Be able to work effectively with vendor support receiving and communicating instructions via telephone, e-mail, or in person
- Associate's degree (AA) in electronics preferred
- Minimum of three years broadcast experience preferred
- Working knowledge of broadcast station operations
