Job Description
The Scenery Technical Designer is supporting all scenic design activities for *** 's Scenic Fabrication Services team. The Scenery Technical Designer manages the development of technical construction drawings of scenery for TV sets, music videos, commercials, and events. He/she also creates original designs for all the previously mentioned events for real and virtual sets.
Job Duties
- Develops organized construction drawings and drafting package that include floorplan, elevations, sections, 3D modeling, and details for the construction team.
- Manages graphics, technical, and fabrication teams to ensure feasibility of design.
- Adheres to best practices for safety and ease of construction.
- Designs TV sets, music videos sets, commercials, awards, events, movie sets, scripted productions for real and virtual sets.
- Develops research, mood boards, conceptualization, and sketches to stablish a design process within the set design.
- Supervises and conduct site surveys through photo documentation, dimensions, and onsite 3D modeling.
- Sources, develops, and manages outside vendors as needed to execute on creative ideas, finishes, colors, and textures.
- Determines and select finish materials, colors, and textures, which may include gathering samples, and design solutions.
- Collaborates with various internal and external teams and Stakeholders.
- Assists the Scenic Fabrication Services management team in building strong client relationships.
- Participates in creative team brainstorming, fabrication kick off, and load in meetings.
- Supervises the organization and maintenance of digital and physical sample libraries and documentation.
- Possesses project management skills to drive successful, technical scenic design projects from inception to completion.
- Works under the direct supervision of the Sr. Manager, Scenic Fabrication Services and is responsible for completing any other tasks as assigned by Manager
Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
- Minimum of 3 years of professional experience within the technical theatre, event production, live events, interior design, marketing agency, film industry, or scenic fabrication industry.
- Bachelor's degree in interior design or architecture.
- Exhibits a thorough understanding of finish materials and color theory.
- Proven experience in implementing lighting design and possess experience in LED implementation.
- Proven experience modeling and rendering with 3D visualizing programs -Sketch Up, Vectorworks and Unreal Engine.
- Exhibits ability to produce virtual and real set design including technical construction drawings.
- Prior experience with fabrication or scenery construction.
- Exhibits general knowledge of A/V and truss structure.
- Skilled in use of computers and Microsoft Office (Teams, Excel, Outlook, Word, SharePoint, One Drive).
- Fluent in English and Spanish (both written & verbal)
Desired Characteristics:
- Master's degree in Scenic or Theatrical Design preferred.
- Exhibits thorough knowledge/experience in Hispanic and Caribbean design and architectural aesthetics.
- Strong organizational and leadership skills
- Able to pivot *** ween tasks and work calmly in fast-paced environment.
- Efficient and flexible approach to meeting deadline.
- Solid verbal communicator with strong writing skills in English and Spanish.
