As an Assistant Editor I was responsible for tracking assets as they came into post, AMA linking and transcoding, grouping footage (multiple cameras w/ audio), organizing and labeling clips for the editor and keeping the project organized. I was promoted to Editor after the original hire left the project.
Summary
I know from experience that just being able to push the right buttons isn't enough. I believe the top priority of an AE is to make life easy for the editor no matter how menial or grand the task.
