I was a producer and the editor on Llama Nation with Tanner. Working with Tanner was an amazing experience that helped me learn a lot about how to direct projects myself. The first thing about working with Tanner is that he was able to communicate hi ...MORE... s vision on the project very clearly so that I could understand what I should do in order to execute his vision. Also, filmmaking is inherently a stressful job. Throughout all the shoots and long hours of editing and stressful moments Tanner remained calm and collective and following his leadership helped us get through those hard times. I think the thing that impressed me the most was his ability to craft a story through pre-production, production, and post-production. His ability to ask the right questions and set a comfortable environment for interviews allowed the subjects to give the best answers possible. As the story changed (as it inevitably does for a documentary) he was able to roll with the changes and make quick decisions on what we needed to do to adapt. During the editing process, he would see the work that I did and know the right way to tie scenes together and what needed to be added or taken away to produce the best story possible. Overall, it was an amazing experience working with Tanner as a director and something I would do again.
