JOB SUMMARY: The successful producer is a talented and nimble visionary, storyteller, writer, and editor who is able to use and adapt these skills as needed. He/she must effectively tailor and communicate a desired message to audiences who receive their news, information, and related marketing content via a variety of platforms. *** 5 producers take the lead on and are responsible for their projects from conception to completion. This includes pitching ideas to management, coordinating and directing video and still photography shoots, interacting with a variety of personnel in the station, departments, outside vendors, and more. Additional responsibilities include creating promotional materials for Sales, logging/scheduling promos, contributing to the Daily *** 5 newsletter, attending/working on a number of public audience engagement events like *** 5 Ziptrips, and play a principal role in the production and execution of our Community Partnership projects.

**** YOU ARE BRINGING: Bachelor's degree in broadcasting, communications, marketing, or related field. Minimum three (3) years promotions experience in a top 20 market. Strong writing and communication skills. Exceptional creativity in the development of compelling marketing materials, promos for all mediums including broadcast (TV/Radio), digital, and print. Must have knowledge of all aspects of production, including lighting, photo, video, and print composition, directing video/print shoots. Must be proficient with Adobe Premiere and the entire Adobe Creative Suite. Candidates must have impeccable attention to detail and time management/organizational skills for a fast-paced and deadline driven production environment. Must be self-motivated and effectively work independently and as a team member.

The *** News Washington Bureau is seeking a creative and enthusiastic Producer with strong political expertise and editorial judgment, field production experience, and excellent broadcast script writing skills based in Washington, DC.!

This producer will pitch and develop political news and feature stories for day of air and future planning. They will work very closely with correspondents in Washington and across the country and will be responsible for story production from concept to broadcast, while collaborating with the Executive and Senior Producers for the Evening News and *** Morning News and other broadcast platforms including streaming and dot com!

Candidates must have the ability to make quick and thoughtful decisions, crash stories under pressure, and work with the editor to produce visually compelling segments. It is essential that this producer can take initiative by making calls and coming up with creative angles and bookings for fast-paced news cycle, as well as do political reporting. Candidates should be able to provide comprehensive research under deadline and often within hours.

Qualifications:

Degree or equivalent experience in broadcast journalism, political science or related fields is preferred.
5+ years of editorial experience working in a broadcast news environment required.
Passion for politics, news, journalism, and storytelling is required.
Ability to shoot video with prosumer-grade equipment from the field is required.
Must have solid news judgment and experience chasing breaking news.
Proficiency in the broadcast newsgathering process with strong field experience is preferred.
Must balance and prioritize multiple assignments with different deadlines: short, medium, and long-term.
Must be an excellent writer with an ability to tell sensitive stories.
Demonstrated experience developing sources is a must.
