- Are you confident with basic makeup skills, but for 5-6 actors in a reasonable timeframe (high quantity and will need it done as quickly as possible, perhaps a rate of 30 minutes per actor at times)?
- Do you have experience in applying makeup within the horror genre, specifically making someone a ghost?
- Do you have proven experience with henna tattoos (if so, and you answered yes to the other questions, this is basically an automatic qualification for the higher pay rate)?
This posting is with regard to a makeup artist job opening for the ULTRA-EXCITING "Shadow Legacy" short film/web series production by Surreal Visions LLC, a Denver CO startup production company that has high ambitions for said production, as well as a very thorough plan on how to try and reach the stars with this shindig...
WITH THE ADDITIONAL TATTOO EXPERIENCE, THIS ROLE PAYS CLOSER TO $500 PER DAY, DEPENDING ON EXPERIENCE LEVEL
We have already produced a couple scenes for a Production "Day 1" in November. We now have two upcoming heavy production days for the dates of Saturday February 5 (at MFG Studios downtown Denver) and Monday February 7 at Alba's 360 Body Sculpting in Westminster - both days generally from 8/9am until about 5 or 6pm (it is possible this person in this position could leave even earlier). In addition, there could be another production day for this position on Saturday March 5, location unknown so far - but for now, I'm most concerned with finding someone for February 5 and 7...
Finally, for the studio day (I refer to as "Day 2"), the makeup jobs will all be basic and likely a very easy day in general. For Day 3, the day at the private business in Westminster, this will be a situation in the script with which three bikers meet at a mysterious rendezvous location to test the purity of some cocaine that they just robbed from their competition (we will be using the same location for both this rendezvous point and the store/drug front that is robbed). The makeup here would be slightly more complicated because, them being bikers, I would prefer for each of them to have at least a few henna tattoos...
It is winter, luckily, and so the tattoos don't need high quantity, but I do prefer one with a neck tattoo, perhaps a simple teardrop under the eye for another, and then perhaps one tattoo spelling out words on someone's fingers, and maybe just one more simple tattoo.
Other than the tattoos, the makeup would generally be basic foundation (because it's all for male actors). Then, there is also one actor who would be playing both a human and ghost version of himself, and so we would need to apply some ghostly makeup, and then have that makeup removed to shoot him as a normal human...
Luckily, most of the heavier makeup work for this Day 3 will all take place in the morning. Afternoon, things will definitely start calming down, and makeup work here will generally just be touchup jobs and making sure no other makeup needs arise throughout the day. Any actors that come in later will not even be filmed in the face. So it is very possible on this particular day the makeup work will wrap up as early as 3-4pm - but this is no guarantee.

If the makeup work ends up phenomenal when all is said and done, there is a possibility the bonus can go higher than the pay rate stated above. I have generally been known to take care of people - I am not rich by any means, but if the work is extraordinary, then I don't mind going out of my way to compensate. I do indeed take this production VERY seriously and I look very closely at detail!
