Battleground News is the source for 2024 election news as it pertains to the seven swing states and their 93 electoral votes. With local sources, we cover how voters in each swing state district are thinking about the issues and the candidates. It will be broadcasted on stations in the seven swing states as well as in major markets throughout the US.
Overview
We are seeking an enthusiastic and outgoing Video Interviewer/”Field Correspondent” to join our team and conduct on-the-street interviews. The ideal candidate will be responsible for engaging with the public, capturing compelling stories, and providing high-quality footage for our broadcasts. This role is crucial in helping us connect with our audience by delivering authentic, real-time content that reflects the community's voice.
Key Responsibilities
Approach and interview people on the street to gather opinions, stories, and reactions on various topics.
Ensure high-quality audio and video recording during interviews.
Collaborate with the production team to ensure footage meets broadcast standards.
Maintain a professional and respectful demeanor when interacting with the public.
Work with the legal team to secure necessary permissions and releases from interview subjects.
List of Responsibilities
Conduct 20 on-the-street interviews per week.
Travel to multiple counties per week to ensure that a diverse set of viewpoints is being collected.
Operate camera and audio equipment to capture interviews.
Organize footage as needed requested by producer.
Ensure compliance with legal and ethical standards for broadcast content.
Regularly report on progress and provide feedback to the production team. Log all interview responses in a Google spreadsheet on a daily basis; denote the best interviews for the producing team.
Stay updated on current events and trending topics to conduct relevant interviews.
Job Qualifications and Requirements
Previous experience in journalism, communications, or a related field.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Proficient in using video and audio recording equipment.
Basic editing skills and familiarity with editing software.
Ability to obtain and manage interview releases and permissions.
Comfortable working in various outdoor environments and engaging with the public.
Ability to travel around the state on a weekly basis.
Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or a related field preferred.
Reporting Structure
This position reports directly to the Senior Producer. The Video Interviewer/”Field Correspondent” will collaborate closely with the production team, including producers, editors, and legal advisors, to ensure the successful capture and broadcast of street interviews.
Legal Requirements for Using Footage in Broadcast
Informed Consent: Obtain explicit permission from interviewees to use their footage. This includes explaining how the footage will be used and securing written consent through release forms.
Privacy Considerations: Respect the privacy of individuals and avoid capturing footage in private settings without permission.
Copyright Compliance: Ensure that any background elements or incidental music captured during interviews do not infringe on third-party copyrights.
Broadcast Standards: Adhere to all relevant broadcast standards and regulations to ensure the content is suitable for airing.
