Job Summary:

*** Animation *** has an exciting opportunity for Animators to join the team at our Vancouver, BC studio. Be part of the longest running animation team in history. Work alongside legends. We want talented CG Character Animators who show exceptional understanding of acting, appeal, entertainment, weight, locomotion, anatomy, and dialogue. We want artists with a strong point of view who put a personal spin on their work. Please note that relocation eligibility may be determined based on role and individual circumstance.

Responsibilities

• Effectively tell the story in a meaningful way through vivid and compelling character acting and movement
• Create quality animation using digital tools for feature films and other related projects
• Work closely with Directors and Animation Supervisors in a feature film environment:
• Receive assigned shots in sequence review with the Directors providing general guidance
• Plan shots with an understanding of story/character context
• Block animation, most commonly using audio dialog track
• Clearly show performance ideas and shot blocking in Director review (animation dailies)
• Collaborate with and take direction from Directors and Animation Supervisors
• Implement changes and completely finish shots in accordance with production schedule
• Develop a working knowledge of necessary production tools
• Maintain an open and professional demeanor regarding direction, changes and shifting requirements

Requirements

• A reel that is no more than 2 minutes in length of character animation that illustrates visual storytelling, believable expressions, emotional states, weight, physics, balance, appeal, entertainment, clear timing, and staging
• Ideally at least 2 years of production experience
• Proficiency in Maya or equivalent software preferred but not required
• Background in traditional hand-drawn, computer, or stop-motion animation
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience

The hiring range for this position in British Columbia, Canada is C$100,300 to C$145,420 per year. This hiring range covers candidates who are considered experienced to expert level. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A full range of medical, financial, and/or other variable pay or benefits, may be offered dependent on the level and position offered.

Position Summary

This role is considered Hybrid, which means the employee will work 2-3 days onsite at a Company designated location and occasionally from home.

The Animator creates high quality motion of computer graphics creatures, characters and objects within a shot, using a variety of animation software programs, and works under the general supervision of Senior Level and Animation Supervisors.

What You'll Do

• Responsible for the successful animation of a series of shots on a specific project
• Participate as a team member in determining various aesthetic solutions; provides feedback to other members of the production by attending dailies on a regular basis
• Maintain or exceed a consistent level of productivity while meeting deadlines and producing high quality work
• Responsible for acting as a "mentor" to Entry Level Animators and must be able to assist them with their shots
• Perform other tasks related to the creation of computer-generated animation

What We're Looking For

• 3 or more years of relevant professional VFX experience and a Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in traditional animation or computer animation
• Demonstrate experience working in computer animation with a focus on detailed, hyper real mocap and facial performance
• Expert knowledge of traditional animation principles, acting, film production and compositional design while demonstrating exceptional skills as an animator based as evidenced by a portfolio, demo reel and/or references
• Knowledge of UNIX and shell scripting; expert knowledge of Maya, proprietary and other software programs
• Ability to take on a delegated task with a minimum of supervision
• Excellent organization and communication skills

The hiring range for this position in Vancouver is C$84,100 to C$107,700 per year based on a 40-hour work week. The amount of hours scheduled per week may vary based on business needs. Animators create high quality motion of computer generated characters, creatures and objects within a shot, using a variety of animation software programs, and working under the general supervision of Senior Level and Animation Supervisors.
