Job Description

PLEASE NOTE: This is a project / limited term position with an estimated duration of up to 12 months, unless otherwise amended or terminated as deliverables within this project are completed.

The Technical Manager will provide front-line management of personnel, facilities, equipment, operations and technology for a customer driven production operations group. Coordinate all technical and logistical requirements prior to air and then in the control rooms to ensure that all technical aspects of the production go as planned. This position works with and supports productions in the *** Sports Group Stamford facility including the *** Broadcast Network, Golf Channel, Olympic Channel, *** as well as *** Olympics.

Responsibilities:

Work closely with all show personnel in planning programs and scheduling manpower resources including field crews, edit rooms, control rooms and production ***
Coordinate and communicate with remote origination locations to ensure technical quality and readiness for air.
Ensure efficient utilization of company resources within a fast paced rapidly changing environment
Work with other *** entities, outside broadcasters and vendors to identify, negotiate for and secure required resources.
Maintain technical and broadcast quality.
Work closely with engineering to ensure all equipment is meeting client's expectations.
Ensure compliance with all applicable company policies

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Engineering or related field, or equivalent experience.
Minimumfive (5) years' experience in live, studio television production experience.
Minimum five (5)years' experience in engineering support and operational experience in broadcast studio and production control room.
Minimum three (3) years' experience with field/remote production processes and equipment (including satellite/telco and communications) experience.
Must have proficient computer skills including; Apple, Microsoft O365, and other collaborative software platforms.
Must be able to work flexible and long hours during the week and across weekends.

Your New Role:

We are growing our Studio Operations Team here at WBD at Techwood *** in Atlanta. Studio Operations is changing throughout the industry. Therefore, we are also expanding our world class facilities in support of our top tier, innovative productions happening here daily. The Technical Director will function as one of the technical leads for a production during live game and/or studio broadcast productions. The Technical Director is responsible for set up and operation of the production switcher and associated technical equipment in the Production Control Room and/or live location environment. They are also responsible for evaluating and then assigning all video inputs taking into consideration timing and video levels all while orchestrating the control room set up. Finally, the Technical Director will operate as the "right hand" of the Show Director to develop and execute the creative and technical "look" of the production by creating special effects via the production switcher and various external effects equipment.

Your Role Accountabilities:

LIVE/TAPED PRODUCTIONS

Set up and operate production switchers and all associated technical equipment in a Production Control Room and/or Live Location environment during live game and/or studio broadcast productions. Orchestrate control room set up while simultaneously evaluating and assigning all video inputs taking into consideration timing and video levels.
Collaborates with the Director and Producer to execute the technical and artistic vision for each live game and/or studio production.
Lead the technical portion of the production team during the production set up and coordinate the faxing of their equipment and show elements since their equipment and work passes through the production switcher.
Collaborate with A1, V1, and other production entities needed for the technical fax to verify all video and audio signals are routed correctly and making it to their final destinations.
During a live game and/or studio broadcast productions recall video sources, transitions and effects and route studio monitors as instructed by Show Director. Continuously monitoring all sources used during the production to ensure all video levels look correct and stay in timing which include external feeds (NBATV Arena Link/Satellite/Bonded Cellular/Etc.)
Must be able to handle the pressures of live programming and limited time constraints

COLLABORATION & COMMUNICATION

Work closely with the Technical Operations and Production (BEST) Engineering to identify, troubleshoot, and solve technical problems for Live Location, PCRs and Studio productions. Making sure each problem is resolved to completion.
Collaborates with Production (BEST) Engineering, Technical Operations and Production Management to identify and special order any equipment needed for live game and/or studio broadcast productions.
Effective communicator across teams

PLANNING RESPONSIBILITIES

Creates documentation on switcher builds, effects builds and set up of the switcher for each broadcast production

Qualifications & Experiences:

Minimum of 3 years of network level broadcast experience operating as a Technical Director for live game, live remote and/or live studio productions
Knowledge of current industry standards
Knowledge of video signal flow and video router operations
Knowledge of IP router operations and the software used to edit panels
Must be able to technically operate various models of video switchers, digital effects devices and other associated ancillary equipment
Must take ownership and accountability for assigned projects
Computer skills, using MS Office
Able to work flexible, non-traditional hours including weekends and holidays

Not Required but preferred experience:

Diverse background in broadcast television preferred, including camera and/or video playback
Knowledge of Grass Valley switchers
Knowledge of Evertz monitoring systems
Knowledgeable of new technologies available or on the horizon
