We are a small documentary crew passionate about capturing the vibrant essence of the Appalachian String Band Music Festival in Clifftop, WV. This annual gathering is renowned for its rich tapestry of traditional Appalachian music, dance, and community spirit.
Our goal is to create a compelling documentary that highlights the festival's uniqueness and cultural significance. This is our second year returning to the festival, and we are seeking a skilled and experienced Sound Recordist to join our team for a two-week period on location.
The filmmaking process is almost entirely outside or under tents, involving location sound recording in highly variable conditions including rain and wind, as well as mountain temperature drops.
You will be required to record high-quality sound in diverse outdoor settings, capturing clear audio during live music performances (jam sessions with acoustic instruments and some instances where there is a mixing board and stage), interviews, and ambient scenes, collaborating closely with our small crew. You will also be expected to troubleshoot and resolve any audio issues that may arise during recording sessions and ensure all audio recordings are properly stored and organized.
Proven experience as a Sound Recordist, particularly in field and location recording, is essential. You should be proficient with professional audio recording equipment and software, have a strong understanding of audio recording techniques and best practices, and possess excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail. The ability to work effectively in a team and adapt to the dynamic nature of documentary filmmaking is crucial.
You must be comfortable working in outdoor environments and various weather conditions and willing to camp on-site for the duration of the project.
This contract position offers compensation of $2500 for the two-week period (July 24-Aug 4), with food and travel expenses covered. Camping gear will be provided if needed, but personal camping equipment is welcome.
If you are excited about this opportunity and meet the requirements, please send your
1. resume
2. cover letter detailing your relevant experience with link to recordings of your previous work and information about the conditions under which those recordings were made.
We are looking forward to your joining us in creating a documentary that celebrates Clifftop!
